EXAMPLE METHODOLOGY OF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The methods of ABC Training Program are combination of Traditional Approach and The Modern Approach. For the first session, we have applied the Modern Approach which is Adventure Learning method for both ‘Group Juggle’ and ‘Tied Together’ games. The method is focuses on the development of teamwork and leadership skills through structured activities conducted by trainers. We had analyze every possibility that tend be occurs within organization members and we found that this method is the best suited for developing skills related to group effectiveness such as self-awareness, problem solving skills, conflict management and risk taking.

Tied Together is a game which they were required to work together in order to complete a simple task given by trainers. The problem is, that they are tied together by their ankle. Problem solving, teamwork and communication are essential for this challenge. Equipment required is rope or anything to tie participants. Once they are connected, facilitator will give them some simple commands to perform without falling over, such as walk forwards, backwards, left and right. When they found it difficult, they need to split into smaller teams or pairs and ask them to try again. Once they are successes, they have to complete task given.

The second game is Group Juggle, which in the same Adventure Learning method. Every group need to stand in an inward facing circle and are asked to throw juggling balls among the group member in a specific order. As the activity started, more juggling balls are introduced and the pressure to work well as a group increases. Equipment required is a juggling ball for each group and only small space required as it is an indoor activity. When a ball was thrown, the thrower must shout the name of the recipient they catch, and throw to another group member. This continues until each group member has caught and thrown the ball just once. It should have eventually ended back at the start point.

For the second session, we have practiced the Traditional Approach which is Lecture Method. We noticed that there were variations in Lecturer Method but we chose to focus on the Team Teaching Method for ABC Training Program. Team Teaching Method is when two or more trainers, present on different types of topics or alternative views of the same topic. The benefit of this method is it brings more knowledge and alternative perspective in training sessions as both trainers, ABC and DEF would briefly explain on their own point of view in detailed on topics that have been discussed earlier for training session which is Formal Business Attire.

Formal Attire session was conducted by both trainers. They have presented on appropriates formal business attire for specific positions and workplace which includes casual wear, bottom wear and casual shoes in business perspective with several tips to remain comfortable and professional in the workplace. Equipment required only slide presentation, audio visual and full of attention from major audience in giving feedback.

Apart from that, the used of slides in our training program for this second session was basically an Audiovisual Training Method which the active audience received information in two ways which is verbal and diagram. Trainers play an important role to communicate at the same time to allow audience in giving and receiving feedback from them by engaging in their actual problem. Furthermore, we provided several interactive video in slides as input to make it even clear for all audience as we believed that video is a popular Instructional Method used to improve communication skills for illustrating how and what trainers about to explain and describe.

Our learning targets are to allow employees to classify the components of formal business attire and differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate formal business attire for specific position and workplace.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT (TnD)

Introduction to Training and Development (TnD)

Training is a planned effort by a company to facilitate employees' learning of job-related competencies. Training and Development is a subsystem of an organization. It ensures that randomness is reduced and learning or behavioral change takes place in structured format. It is a framework that focuses on organizational competencies (include knowledge, skills or behavior critical for successful job performance) which offer training at the first stage, followed by developing employee to satisfy the organizations long-term desires and individuals' career goals and employee value to their present and future employers. Training can be used to grow a proficient competitive advantage to form intellectual capital which include basic skills, superior skills, sympathetic or concerned of customer or manufacturing system and self-motivated creativeness.

There were traditional and modern approaches of training:

Traditional Approach - Methods in which trainees are passive recipients of information, which for our training program, we used facts or information that includes lectures and audio-visual technique. Most of the organizations before were holding the traditional view that managers are born and not made. There were also some views that training is a very costly affair and not worth. Organizations used to believe more in executive pinching. But now the scenario seems to be changing.

The Modern Approach - Methods in which trainers communicate through spoken words what they want trainees to learn. The Modern Approach is now considered as more of a retention tool than a cost. It is least expensive and least time-consuming ways to present large amount of information which is easily employed or engaged with large number of groups' trainees. There were variations of Lecture Method - Team teaching, guest speakers, panels and student presentation. Video is a trendy instructional method used in training in order to improve communication skills, interviewing skills and customer-service skills and to illustrate how procedures should be followed.
